Tema dan Pesan "Syair Bidasari Lahir"

Syair Bidasari ialah kesusasteraan Melayu klasik bergenre syair romantik yang amat popular dalam masyarakat Melayu abad ke-18 dan ke-19. Tarikh teksnya dikarang dipercayai seawal 1750 Masihi (M). Ia dikarang oleh pengarang asalnya berdasarkan hikayat di Kembayat Negara (Champa), menurut rangkap pertama syair. Para sejarawan percaya bahawa Kembayat Negara ialah Champa.

Manuskrip terawal ditemui, setakat ini, bertarikh 1814 M, namun tajuk syair ini telah disebut oleh Dr. J. Leyden pada 1807 M ketika beliau mengembara ke seluruh rantau Melayu, yang menggambarkan karya ini telah wujud lebih awal daripada tarikh manuskrip (1814 M) itu. Syair Bidasari ialah karya asli Melayu dan dikatakan berasal dari Palembang berdasarkan beberapa faktor linguistik, menurut Van Hoëvell.

Syair ini diterbitkan dan dibahas oleh H. C. Klinkert di Leiden pada tahun 1886 dalam Drie Maleische Gedichten of Sjair Ken Tamboehan, Jatim Nestapa en Bidasari. Syair ini sempat populer di Eropa pada abad ke-19, dan diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Belanda, dan disadur dalam bentuk prosa ke dalam bahasa Perancis.
Syair ini memiliki tema Suka-cita berlebihan seorang raja atas kelahiran putrinya yang berujung kedukaan. Pesannya adalah 1) Syukurilah segala anugerah dengan cara yang sederhana, 2) Janganlah merayakan sesuatu secara berlebihan.
